Sikh for Justice Protests Kamal Nath’s Visit to US

IKHS FOR JUSTICE PROTESTS KAMAL NATH’S VISIT TO US
Sikhs for Justice condemns the visit of India’s Union Minister for Road and Transport, presently in United States to meet with World Bank officials and other financiers in an effort to attract investors.
According to attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor for Sikhs for Justice, Minister Kamal Nath was indicted by a` high ranking investigative commission on allegations that he led a mob that killed Sikhs during a November 1984 massacre that followed the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Established by the Indian Government in 2000, the Justice G.T. Nanavati commission investigated the genocide in which thousands of Sikhs were massacred in 18 states across the country. Witnesses Monish Sanjay Suri a reputable journalist, Mukhtiar Singh manager of the Gurdawara, Ajit Singh, and Satnam Singh all testified that Nath led an armed mob that attacked and demolished Gurudwara in Rakab Ganj, burning several Sikhs alive. After five years of investigation, the Indian Government and its prosecuting agencies in 2005 failed to file any charges or prosecute Nath, rewarding him instead with a cabinet post.
Attorney Pannun stated that U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law which governs the entry of foreign nationals to the U.S. prohibits issuance of Visa and admission to U.S. of individuals with known history of human rights violations.
“We plan to file an official protest with Secretary U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Attorney General and U.S. Department of Homeland Security and will lobby to stop visits of Kamal Nath, Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Amitabh Bachchan, known human rights violators and killers of hundreds of Sikhs to the U.S.,” Pannun said. “In the past Indian politicians such as Narendra Modi, sitting Chief Minister of Indian state of Gujarat who was involved in the killing of thousands of Muslims in Gujarat in 2002 was twice refused visa and entry into U.S.”
As of April 2009, an Amnesty International Report issued 25 years after the massacre that followed of Gandhi assassination, noted that the country’s government has still failed to bring to justice those responsible. According to Pannun, the Indian Government has denied justice and refused to prosecute high ranking politicians and police personnel who planned and led the mobs that killed thousands of Sikhs in 110 Indian cities. Others against whom credible witnesses, testimony and evidence of involvement have been presented include former MP and Union Ministers Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar as well as popular Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who appeared on national television inciting viewers to kills Sikhs with statements such as “Blood for Blood” on October 31, 1984.
