Sikh Shahadat Magazine to Host Discussion on 40th Anniversary of Teeja Ghallughara

Amritsar: Sikh Shahadat, a prominent Punjabi quarterly magazine focusing on Sikh and Punjab related issues, is set to hold a discussion marking the 40th anniversary of Teeja Ghallughara. The June 1984 attack by the Indian Army on Sri Harmandar Sahib (Amritsar), Akal Takht Sahib, and over 70 other Sikh Gurdwaras across Punjab and neighboring regions, is etched in Sikh history as the “Teeja Ghallughara.”

The topic of discussion, titled “Likhtan Dee Pairh: Ghallughara 1984 Sambandhi Chhapi Samagri De Sandharbh Vich“ (Reading between the Lines: Analyzing Literature on the 1984 Ghallughara), aims to scrutinize the writings penned over the past four decades concerning Teeja Ghallughara. 

A poster released by Sikh Shahadat announces that the discussion is scheduled for May 26, 2024, at the Bhai Veer Singh Ji Hall, located at the Central Khalsa Yatremkhana in Putalighar, Amritsar. The event is poised to draw youth analysts and researchers of the Sikh community to delve into the historical significance and enduring impact of the tragic events of 1984.

This gathering underscores the importance of scholarly dialogue and critical reflection on Teeja Ghallughara, serving as a platform for preserving the memory and understanding the complexities surrounding this pivotal moment in Sikh history.
