Chandigarh: Former Member Parliament and president of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann), S. Simranjit Singh Mann has accused Justice R. K. Jain of Punjab Haryana High Court for adopting double standards of law.
In a written statement issued in Gurmukhi/Punjabi (copy available with the Sikh Siyasat News), S. Simranjit Singh Mann said that the Justice R. K. Jain had upheld the ban imposed by the then SAD (Badal)-BJP led Punjab government on 10 November 2016 Sikh gathering near Talwandi Sabo but now same judge has revoked the ban imposed by the Punjab government on Faridkot rally of SAD (Badal) that was held on 16 September, 2018.
SAD(A) counsel Advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal had moved a petition in the High Court in 2016 when Badals led Punjab government had banned Sarbat Khalsa 2016 gathering. Justice R. K. Jain had upheld the ban in that case but how he set aside the ban imposed by Punjab government on SAD (Badal) rally, said ex-MP.
The discrimination is clearly visible in Justice R. K.Jain’s decision when one compares his decision in our case and the Badals’ case, said S. Mann while stressing that the legal point involved in both cases was the same and even factual situation was also almost similar.
He accused Justice R. K. Jain for (allegedly) violating Article 14 of the Indian constitution which commands ‘equality before the law’.
