Chandigarh: S. Simranjit Singh Mann yesterday (Nov. 8) withdrew his petition against the Punjab Government’s denial of permission for holding a gathering at Talwandi Sabo on November 10, 2016. The petition was withdrawn after the High Court refused to grant any relief.
Another petition submitted by S. Simranjit Singh Mann against arrest of party workers and supporters was adjourned to November 23.
The Bench of Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain wanted to know the provisions of law under which the permission was sought and the circumstances preventing the holding of the congregation.
In the other case, S. Simranjit Singh Mann’s counsel Simranjit Singh placed before the Bench of Justice Jitendra Chauhan a list of 156 persons taken into illegal custody by the Punjab Police in connection with the event.
S. Mann contended in his petition that a complete list could not be prepared following the crackdown by the state police. The High Court has fixed November 23 as the next date of hearing.
