SSF (Mehta) protests against Nanak Shah Fakir movie; Demands ban

Bathinda: Harinder Sikka’s upcoming movie Nanak Shah Fakir is caught into a controversy over depiction of first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Ji, and his family in clear violation of pious Sikh tradition. After Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) declared to have already rejected the movie as it was against Sikh traditions, various Sikh organizations have announced to oppose the screening of movie.
Demanding ban on Nanak Shah Fakir moive, activists of Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) staged protests in various district headquarters of Punjab. Protesters said that Nanak Shah Fakir movie has violated Sikh tradition by depicting Guru Nanak Ji, Bebe Nanaki Ji and Mata Tripta Ji as characters of this film.

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister of India through deputy commissioners at district headquarters demanding ban on this movie.
In Bathinda the protest was led by SSF (Mehta) Bathinda rural district president Parmjit Singh Jaggi and Harinder Singh Kaka Bathinda urban district president.
It may be recalled that depiction of Sikh Gurus and their families and great Sikh personalities related to Guru Sahib is prohibited under the Sikh tradition, where as there was a growing trend among film-makers to make films on Sikh Gurus for their commercial gains.
