Chandigarh: The Punjab government will be introducing a bill to de-acquire the land of controversial Satluj Yamuna Link canal, also called the SYL canal on Monday (Mar. 14) afternoon. The bill seeks to re-vest property rights of nearly 2000 acres of land to the owners from whom the land was acquired for constructing the SYL canal more than three decades ago.
The bill is called “The Punjab Satluj Yamuna Link Canal (Rehabilitation and Re-vesting of Property Rights) Bill 2016”.
The opposition Congress party has complained that it was not intimated that the bill would be introduced in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday.
Congress Legislature Party chief Charanjit Singh Channi said “We should have been informed by Friday evening about any bill on SYL likely to be introduced Monday. But we were not intimated about any bill and we have already sent adjournment motion on Abohar incident and beadbi incidents”.
