Coming down heavily against Punjab government for adopting oppressive tactics against Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s hunger strike, various Sikh organisations called upon the Sikh masses to reach Ludhiana on April 13.
An old aged man of 82 years named Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is grappling with the government for 76 days for the release of Sikh Detainees who have already served their life sentences.
PUCL Punjab-Haryana has expressed deep concern over the health and well being of Sh. Surat Singh Khalsa who has been on a fast unto death for the last 68 days, and the indifferent and insensitive response of the Punjab government.

In a written statement/ declaration, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, has offered clarifications about his hunger strike and struggle to secure release of Sikh political prisoners who have served minimum mandatory terms of their sentences. It is notable that Bapu Surat Singh is on hunger strike for last 69 days and is kept under police custody at Civil Hospital (Ludhaina) where he is being force-fed by doctors.
Ravinderjit Singh Gogi, son of fasting Sikh activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa reprotedly stated that the struggle for the permanent release of Sikh political prisoners would continue until their release. He was presented in the Court by the Police with his hands cuffed in chains on March 19.
Physique of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa who is on hunger strike against the continued detention of Political Sikh Prisoners, is facing a dramatic deflation in his health. It is notable that Punjab Police is force feeding Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa by excusing their worries about his life. But the declining physique of Bapu Surat Singh is depicting something else.
Speaking with reporters after Thursday’s prayer meeting, Bhajan Singh said: “Sikhs have been here since 1880s. They have established themselves as farmers and working in every aspect of the American fabric. And the hub of the community is Yuba City, and Sacramento, and Stockton. So naturally this has brought a great concern among the community as one of its own is being arrested and possibly tortured in India as we speak.”
While talking to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Bhai Mohkam Singh criticized Punjab government for its alleged failure to release Sikh political prisoners languishing in Indian jails despite having completed minimum mandatory terms of their sentences. He slammed Badal government for imprisoning Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa's son Ravinder Pal Singh Gogi.

Bibi Sarvinder Kaur, daughter of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, today said that no one from the family is being allowed to meet him. "The police has put our father under arrest and he is being kept at Civil Hospital in Ludhiana. The police is not allowing any one to meet him", said Bibi Sarvinder Kaur.
Dal Khalsa today came down heavily on Punjab government for crackdown on members of Committee for the release of political prisoners for lending support to the cause of Bapu Surat Singh, who is on fast unto death since Jan 16 seeking the release of prisoners who have completed their prison term.
"This is not only a violation of human rights but is also a murder of tall claims of our government for the largest democracy in the world", an NRI body said in a press release while referring to police crackdown against Sikh activist Surat Singh Khasla's peaceful struggle to secure release of Sikh political prisoners.
Punjab police has launched a crackdown against Sikh activists in wake of continuous hunger strike by Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa. As a part of crackdown the police today arrested hundreds of Sikh activists along with Jaspal Singh Heiran, editor of Rozana Pehredar. Rozana Pehredar had announced to conduct a march from Jagraon to Ludhaina to show support for Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa and the cause of Sikh Political prisoners.
The Ludhiana police yesterday arrested United Akali Dal (UAD) chief Bhai Mohkam Singh under preventive detention clauses (Sections 107/151) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. He was kept at a local police station till late evening. His family members tired to secure bail for him but could not succeed.
