The Delhi High Court on Thursday (22 January 2026) issued directions to the concerned authorities to communicate a decision on the parole application of Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara within four weeks.
The issue of Sikh Political Prisoners (Bandi Singhs) has long been a core concern of the Sikh community. Many of these individuals are serving life sentences, and their release largely depends on the political will of the Indian government, particularly the Centre.

For past three decades the 1984 Sikh genocide was labeled as "riots" by the Indian state, more specifically the government, judiciary and the media propagated that the 1984 killings of Sikhs were "riots".
The High Court pronounced Sajjan Kumar guilty for instigating massacre of Sikhs during November 1984 Sikh Genocide and sentenced him to imprisonment for life.
In another setback to Indian state's denial tactics to deny the fact of 1984 Sikh genocide, a judgement of the Delhi High Court, delivered recently, clearly uses the term 'genocide' while referring to the events related to 1984 Sikh genocide.
The injunction order was passed on Thursday, just a day before Cobrapost was set to release its sting-operation based documentary at a press conference held at 3 PM at Press Club of India.
