There was a large crowd of people in the Holy Shrine gathered to observe the martyrdom day of their Guru Arjun Dev, an event of special significance in the development of Sikh faith. Sikhs from all over the world had travel long distances to become part of this Holy ritual. Many of whom wouldn’t have even thought in their wildest dreams that this could be their last journey.

In June 1984, when the Indian army attacked Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and other Sikh Gurdwara Sahibs, the attack was code-named as "Operation Blue Star". A Pakistani poet Afzal Ahsan Randhawa wrote a poem in June 1984 and described the attack attack as "Navan Ghalughara" (new holocaust).

He was reportedly attacked by four persons in London. He sustained injuries on his neck and face, believed to have been caused with a knife.

General of Indian Army Kuldip Singh Brar, who had led armed attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar has been stabbed in London. K. S. Brar was one of the Indian army officers who had led attack on Sri Darbar Sahib in June 1984, in which thousands of innocent Sikh pilgrims were massacred as Indian army used heavy armour and tanks to destroy Sri Akal Takhat Sahib.
