The new Punjabi film Chardikala has sparked renewed debate surrounding the cinematic portrayal of Sikh shaheeds (martyrs). Opinion remains divided: while one section supports these films as a vital medium for narrating history to younger generations, another strongly opposes them.
The second day of the ongoing deliberative conference focused on restructuring the legal and policy framework of the Shiromani Akali Dal was marked by intense discussions and thoughtful participation.
On April 10, 2025, a new Punjabi film titled Akaal, starring Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nimrat Khaira, Jarnail Singh, and other prominent faces of the Pollywood industry, was released. However, the film's screening sparked widespread protests by Sikh activists, who raised objections to the portrayal of Baana (traditional Khalsa attire) in the movie.
Sikh Youth Power of Punjab has announced its opposition to the upcoming Punjabi movie Akaal. Pardeep Singh Ayali, a prominent leader of the organization, has raised objections to the film's depiction of "Akaalis" (saint-soldiers in Akaali/Nihang baana).
