Brussels, Belgium (June 28, 2013): A conference on “Human Rights and Death Penalty in India” was held on June 25, 2013 in European Parliament in Brussels, in which various MEPs and Sikh representatives from across the Europe had participated. The conference was reportedly organized at the initiative of Sikh Federation UK.
Having regard to the European Parliament's July 2011 Resolution on India and the death sentence on Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, Article 2 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, EU Guidelines on the Death Penalty, the EU-India Dialogue on Human Rights, Amnesty International calls on 12 April 2013 for the Professor’s death sentence not to be carried out . . .
Brussels (June 26, 2013): It is learnt that the first ever Sikh conference at the European Parliament was held on 25 June, 2013. The conference was organized at the initiative of the Sikh Federation UK. The Sikh Federation (UK) having previously organised numerous such lobbies and meetings. The subject chosen was Human Rights Abuses and the Death Penalty in India.
The proactive role of the executive and major political parties in subverting the principles of clemency and in hastening the execution of capital punishment for a couple of convicts recently will only enhance following the Devinder Singh Bhullar judgment which has a populist, majoritarian tone. - Kaleeswaram Raj

Governor of Delhi has deferred the execution of Prof. Bhullar and the Delhi government has decided to refer to Indian Home Ministry a decision on the execution of Professor Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar following a medical board report regarding Prof. Bhullar's health conditions.

Governor of Delhi have deferred his execution. London/Birmingham (June 13, 2013): It is learnt that the University and College Union (United Kingdom) has opposed the possible execution of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar. UCU Congress has unanimously passed a motion calling upon the Indian government not to execute Professor Bhullar and to remove him from death row immediately.

London, United Kingdom (May 24, 2013): The Sikh Federation (UK) has urged all those concerned with the death penalty in India and the case of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar to push for not only the death penalty to be commuted, but for his immediate release given how long he has been in prison and the state of his health.

Professor Bhullar has already served over a life sentence, and over eight years in solitary confinement and paid his dues to a society that (a) could not give him a proper trial (b) could not find evidence against him (c) could not even go according to the law that sufficient doubt had been cast on his case with Justice M. B. Shah finding him not guilty.
