Chandigarh: Sikh Siyasat's Editor Parmjeet Singh talked to senior journalist Jaspal Singh Sidhu (UNI, Retd.) about elections scenario in Punjab. S. Jaspal Singh Sidhu, who had been in field in Malwa region of Punjab to observe the scenario there shared his views about trends and undercurrents of Punjab elections 2017.
Amritsar, Punjab (January 30, 2012): Indian media was reporting since last two months that Pro-Khalistan Sikh leaders, allegedly hiding somewhere in Pakistan, were planning to trigger blasts to halt election process in Punjab.
As per information made available by Election commission (Punjab), at the end of polling at 17:00 hrs Malerkotla and Fridkot constituency recorded maximum poll turnover of 77% where Fatehgarh Churian recorded lowest turnover of 21%.
"Out of that, nearly Rs 30 crore has been seized from Punjab only. But it's not just cash, which is the king during elections. In the state with the maximum number of crorepati candidates in the fray, everything is flowing freely, from liquor to drugs to money".
Chandigarh, Punjab (January 12, 2012): As per media reports 1,880 candidates have filed their nominations for the 117 seats of the Punjab assembly elections. The polling will be held for all 117 seats on 30th of this month and the counting of votes will take place March 4.
