The Punjab state assembly called Vidhan Sabha yesterday passed an amendment bill to provide for life imprisonment for beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib. The provision was inserted in to the Indian Penal Code, 1860 through a state amendment enacted the Vidhan Sabha by passing the Indian Penal Code (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Punjab Chief Minister made another statement in the Punjab state assembly saying that the construction of controversial Satluj Yamuna Link Canal was never necessary as Punjab has not spare water to share with non-riparian neighbouring state.
The Punjab government will be introducing a bill to de-acquire the land of controversial Satluj Yamuna Link canal, also called the SYL canal on Monday (Mar. 14) afternoon.
Punjab state assembly will be discussing a resolution asserting Punjab’s riparian rights today. The decision to pass this resolution was taken during the Business Advisory Committee of the House held yesterday.

Chandigarh, Punjab (March 24, 2012): As per information available with Sikh Siyasat, Parkash Singh Badal, the chief minister of Punjab, today made a statement on the issue death sentence to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana in state assembly in Chandigarh. He assured that he would meet the Indian President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek "clemency" for the Bhai Rajoana.
