The trauma of 1984 and the ‘movement’ of post-1984 period is being treated as a ‘formula’ by Punjabi filmmakers. Many films on 1984 and aftermath have arrived in last two years. The success of ‘Sadda Haq’ (2013) attracted attention of other Punjabi filmmakers and five films - 47 to 84, Kaum De Heere, Punjab 1984, Dilli 1984, Blood Street - have already been released. Others in line are Leather Life, Patta Patta Singha Da Wairi, Wanted Zinda, Jinda and Sukha - The Movie, Ankhi Yodhey.
Canada/ USA: Dilli 1984, a Punjabi film, said to be based on life and struggle of Sikh Genocide survivor Bibi Jagdish Kaur was today released in United Kingdom, Europe, Canada, United States of America and Australia. The movie was eventually banned in India as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had denied it clearance certificate that was required for public screening of the movie in India.

New Delhi, India (August 23, 2014): It is learnt that another Punjabi movie "Insaaf Di Udeek - Dilli 1984" has been denied clearance Certificate by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Ashok Gupta, director of the movie told during a press conference that an interview of Sikh Genocide 1984 victims and eye-witness was the main motivation behind the movie.
New Delhi, India (August 23, 2014): Much awaited Punjabi movie “Kaum De Heere” was again banned by Indian government on August 21, just a day before it's released in India. The movie was previously banned by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on January 29, 2014. The initial date of release of the movie was February 28. But after the Indian authorities decided against the movie, it was released outside India on March 14.

Chandigarh/ New Delhi (August 21, 2014): Media reports suggest that India may re-impose ban on Punjab Movie Kaum De Heere that was set to be released tomorrow (August 22). India's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has expressed reservation and alleged serious concern over the contents of a Punjabi film which is based on life and sacrifice of Sikh martyrs - Shaheed Beant Singh, Shaheed Kehar Singh and Shaheed Satwant Singh.

The political parties that always remain in search of issue to hit each other, have demanded ban on Punjabi film Kaum De Heere, which is said to be based on life and sacrifice of Sikh martyrs Bhai Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh. The issue is also joined by Shiv Sena.

In its justification, the most dangerous (and deceitful)argument that movie makers along with their supporters and admirers put forward is that everything shown in the movie is based on true facts and incidents that actually did happen in Punjab.

The movie was banned by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India on February 28, 2014. But now the ban has been lifted.
A new Punjabi movie, “Punjab 1984” starring Diljit Dosanjh was released last Friday. The movie was directed by Anurag Singh who claimed that his movie was “not-political”. The movie has evoked mixed reactions from the audience. Diljit's fans, mostly teenagers are praising the movie and some even went on to say that now they know the “facts” about 1984 as these were shown in the movie. But on the other hand many Sikh circles have criticized the movie for a distortion of the facts, for being influenced by State propaganda and for it’s negative portrayal of the Sikh struggle. The debate between the two sides is going on over social media sites.
