Punjabi University to host inter-versity Gatka Tournament from Jan. 8

Chandigarh/ Punjab (December 29, 2013): It is learnt taht the Punjabi University Patiala will be hosting second all India Inter-University Gatka (Men & Women) tournament-2013 from January 8 to January 10, 2014 at university campus in which more than dozen university Gatka teams would participate.

Punjabi University Patiala launches one year diploma course in Gatka

Patiala, Punjab (October 20, 2013): It is learnt that with a view to inculcate depth and breadth of professional coaching in martial art Gatka, the Punjabi University Patiala have launched first of its kind one year diploma course in Gatka from this academic year under an MOU signed between the University and World Gatka Federation (WGF) recently.

Bhai Gurmej Singh awarded fellowship for transliterating Guru Granth Sahib in Braille script

Patiala, Punjab (October 18, 2013): It is learnt that the department of Gurmat Sangeet of Punjabi University, Patiala has awarded Bibi Jasbir Kaur Khalsa fellowship to Bhai Gurmej Singh, Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib, for translating the entire Sri Guru Granth Sahib into Braille script.

Patiala, Punjab (August 21, 2013): It is learnt that on August 20, 2013 Punjabi University Patiala and World Gatka Federation (WGF) today signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration for advancement in academic opportunities and sports cooperation in order to promote, standardize and revive indigenous martial art Gatka as a recognized game at international level.

Punjabi University Students protested against suspected execution of Prof. Bhullar

Patiala, Punjab (April 24, 2013): It is learnt that students of Punjabi University Patiala held a protest march in the University campus on April 23, 2013 to oppose the suspected execution of Sikh political prisoner Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar. Prof. Bhullar is facing imminent threat of execution in India as the Supreme Court of India had cleared his execution on April 12, 2013.

Seminar Report: Historians did not do justice with the Gahdar Movement

It was started by Indian migrants in America and Canada with a view to oust the British imperial power from India and attain the freedom. More than ninety percent participants to this movement were the Sikhs of Punjab.
