As per media reports A. G. Perarivalan, a Tamil national convicted in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, was attacked on Tuesday by a fellow prisoner in the Vellore prison.
A constitution bench of the Supreme Court of India (SCI) yesterday declared that the state government will have to get clearance of the Central government in order to grant premature release to a life terms convict where the case was registered under any central law or the case was investigated by any central agency such as the CBI.

Patiala (August 30, 2011): In a written statement released today, the Sikh Students Federation has showed its' grave concern over the proposed execution of three Tamils on September 9, for assassinating India's former Prime Minster Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. The students' body has pleaded the cancellation of their death penalty as trio have already served more than 20 years in prison.

Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu (Aug 27, 2011): A news report from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu (India) says that nearly 25 students of Government Law College here were arrested today for attempting to block Chennai-bound Intercity Express at the railway station, demanding immediate repeal of the death sentence of the death row convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
