Saka Nakodar (4 February 1986)

A commemorative seminar in Chandigarh gathered legal experts, intellectuals, and families to demand justice for the four Sikh martyrs of the 1986 Saka Nakodar incident and press for action on the missing judicial report.
Organized by Misl satluj, a seminar will be held on February 15 in Chandigarh to commemorate the martyrs of the 1986 Saka Nakodar. Prominent intellectuals, legal experts, and human rights advocates will gather to discuss the history and gross human rights violations surrounding this tragic event.
In a historic move acknowledging a four-decade struggle for justice, multiple Canadian municipalities, including Edmonton and Brampton, officially proclaimed February 4, 2026, as "Saka Nakodar Day." The proclamations mark the 40th anniversary of the Nakodar massacre, a tragedy that remains a pivotal chapter in modern Sikh history.
The City of San Jose, known as the Capital of Silicon Valley, has officially proclaimed February 4 as Saka Nakodar Day, commemorating the tragic events of the Nakodar Massacre of 1986.
On 4th February 2025, a Samagam was held at Gurdwara Bohar Wala Sahib, village Littran, to honor the memory of four Sikh students who sacrificed their lives during the Saka Nakodar on 4th February 1986.
A shaheedi samagam was held at Gurdwara Bohar Wala Sahib, Village Littran near Nakodar (Punjab) on 4 February 2025 to mark 39th anniversary of the Saka Nakodar 1986.
Darbara Singh Guru now acknowledges that in 1986, during the Saka Nakodar massacre, he served as ADC in Jalandhar and acted as District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner while the regular DC was away for training. He admits that he ordered the post-mortem reports, although he previously denied ever acting as DM/DC.
The Punjab & Haryana High Court's decision on October 7, 2023, is based on the order issued by SSP Jalandhar on May 31, 2023. Justice Avneesh Jhingon's order states, "The present petition seeks directions for the registration of an FIR by respondents No.1 to 4, based on the inquiry report submitted by the 'Justice Gurnam Singh Commission of Inquiry, Punjab.'
Recently, U.S. Congresswomen Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) and Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) introduced legislation to recognize February 4 as Saka Nakodar Day to commemorate the 1986 police killing of four Sikh men participating in peaceful religious protest in Nakodar, India.
On 9 February 2020 an annual Shaheedi Samagam was held at a Gurdwara Sahib in Village Littran (near Nakodar) in Punjab in the memory of Shaheeds of Saka Nakodar 1986.
