Pak terms Indian action against Kashmiri students as ‘very unfortunate’; Offers admission to pursue studies

New Delhi, India (March 06, 2014): An Indian university's decision to expel Kashmiri students, followed by a sedition charge against the students for 'celebrating' victory of Pakistan cricket team over Indian cricket team in a match, has sparked strong reactions, including those from the Pakistan Foreign Office official and the J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (March 06, 2014): According to information Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU) authorities expelled at least 67 Kashmiri students from the University and asked them to vacate the hostel rooms. They have been 'charged' with celebrating Pakistan's victory over India in a recent cricket match. The students were expelled on March 03.

Shiv Sena demands sedition charges against Bhai Rajoana for raising Khalistan slogans

Patiala, Punjab (July 27, 2013): As per certain media reports a faction of Shiv Sena has demanded sedition charges against Sikh political prisoner Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana for raising pro-Khalistan slogans. As per information Harish Singla, the Vice-President of Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) Punjab has warned the Punjab government that if a case against Bhai Rajoana is not registered in this regard, their faction of Shiv Sena will stage protests against government across the state.

Sedition proceedings against Dal Khalsa activists dropped by Court

Amritsar, Punjab (October 22, 2012): According to information a local court of CJM Mrs Ranjeet Kaur today dropped proceedings and charges against 21 leaders and activists of Dal Khalsa who were booked in June 2005 for raising slogans in favour of 'Khalistan' on the eve of anniversary of army attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, code named as Operation Bluestar by the Indian state and army.

Political, social and Human rights orgs jointly condemned arrest of Sikh Leaders under UAPA

Jalandhar/Punjab (September 24, 2012): Various Social, Political, Religious and Human Rights Organizations of Punjab have jointly condemned the arrest of Sikh leaders Bhai Kulbir Singh Barapind (President of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani) and Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu (Former President of ADPP). Both leaders were arrested by Punjab police for waging war against the Indian state and notorious “Unlawful Activities (P) Act” was also lashed against them besides various other laws.

Sedition case: After 7 years, police filed charge-sheet against Sikh activists

Amritsar, Punjab (February 04, 2011): In a sudden move, the city police have filed a challan in the trail court of CJM Kuldeep Singh against 22 Dal Khalsa activists after the period of 6 and a half years of registering of the case. As per information available with Sikh Siyasat six of Dal Khalsa activists today appeared in the court. The court has directed all the 22 accused to appear in the court on the next date of hearing i.e. March 13. All the accused are on bail.

PUCL to hold two days seminar on misuse of Sedition and other laws in India
