Over 20,000 petitions signed across North America against detention of Sikh leaders in Punjab

Vancouver, BC (October 9, 2012): According to information last week the Canadian Sikh Coalition and Sikh Youth of America launched a North American campaign, Free the Singh. Petition signing took place in major cities across Canada and the United States with great success as more than 7000 petitions were signed in Canada and more than 9000 in the United States.

London/Punjab (October 07, 2012): Dal Khalsa UK has raised finger towards Indian intelligence agencies in relation to attack on former Lt. Gen. of Indian Army Kuldip Brar. Kuldip Brar had led attack on Sikh shrines, including the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple of Amritsar), in June 1984. The attack has resulted in massive causalities as the attack was conducted on a specific day when there was huge gatherings in Sikh shrines.

US Sikh diaspora condemn arrest and detention of Sikh leaders in Punjab

Philadelphia/USA (October 07, 2012) A conference was held at Upper Darby Gurdwara in Philadelphia, to discuss the human rights situation in Punjab vis-à-vis arrests of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani leaders and charging of the 5 Dal Khalsa men under sedition law by Delhi court in the 31 year old case. Thousands of Sikhs gather in solidarity with Bhai Daljit Singh & Bhai Barapind across Canada

Service on Congress (I) “valid” in 1984 Sikh Genocide Case – US Court Ruling

New York/US (September 21, 2012): In September 19 decision, US Federal Judge Robert Sweet ruled that Congress Party of India has been “properly served” with the summons in November 1984 Sikh Genocide case through Hague Service Convention. Denying motion of the Congress (I) to dismiss the Sikh Genocide case for lack of service, the court held that the plaintiffs’ evidence establishes that service was effected properly in accordance with the Hague Convention.

Sikh Gurudwara Strike – US Senate to hold hearing on hate crimes on September 19

Amritsar (September 17, 2012): According to reports United States Congress would be holding hearing on hate crimes on September 19, 2012. This move is considered to have been taken in the wake of the August 05, 2012 Wisconsin Sikh Gurdwara terror strike in which six Sikhs were killed by a neo-Nazi named Wade M. Page. The US Congress' move to hold this hearing is welcomed by various Sikh organisations and human rights bodies.

Indian Overseas Congress & Khalistan Issue – Canadian Sikhs appeal to Akal Takhat Sahib

Vancouver, BC (September 12, 2012) – Indian Overseas Congress has declared that it wants all Khalistan insignia to be removed from Gurdwara’s in the United States and Canada. Indian Overseas Congress president, Vikram Bajwa, a Surrey resident and former candidate for mayor, has appealed to the Akal Takht to issue a “hukumnaama” (edict) banning Khalistan seals and flags from Gurdwara’s in the United States and Canada.
