Teeja Ghallughara Remembrance March (Amritsar Sahib) [5 June 2019]

Dal Khalsa on June 5 made a fervent appeal to the Sikh Diaspora to observe June 6 as ‘Khalistan Struggle Day’.

The pro-freedom group made a solemn commitment on the eve of Operation Bluestar that the struggle for the fulfillment of ambitions and aspirations of the community would be taken to its logical conclusion following a democratic path.

To drive their point home, they quoted Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale’s speech made on 27.3.1983 at Manji Sahib Diwan Hall: “The day the police will attack this place (Darbar Sahib), it will become an example for the world. On that day, Khalistan will definitely be a reality”. Sant Bhindrawale comments were categorical that the day India attack Darbar Sahib, the struggle for Anandpur Sahib will be transformed into struggle for independent state for Khalistan.

Paying rich tributes to Sikh martyrs of June 1984 and vowing to carry forward their mission, the Dal Khalsa with the support of SAD (Amritsar) took out a “Genocide Remembrance Parade” on the streets of the holy city, on the eve of the 35th anniversary of army attack, codenamed Operation Blue Star.

Activists led by its youth leader Paramjit Singh Mand were carrying photographs of damaged Golden Temple and Akal Takht and those killed in the army action.

Carrying saffron flags and placards, the participants marched from Gurdwara Ranjeet Avenue, passed through the major lanes of the city and concluded at the Akal Takht-highest Sikh temporal authority- after performing prayers. The protesters also raised pro-Khalistan slogans.

Summing up the heinous attack on Sikh faith, party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said, the BJP asked for it, the Congress then in government carried out and the whole of India reveled on it. Youths were carrying placards in this context.

A big float was rolled on the road to draw the attention of passers-by on which photographs of Sikh martyrs along with Khalistani thoughts were depicted.

Addressing the protest march to commemorate 35 years of the army operation, organization head Harpal Singh Cheema said: “The sentiments of sovereignty that were strengthened by the army attack have not been buried with the passage of time and change in the political scenario.”

Referring to DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa’s appeal seeking apology by Indian government, he said mere apology is no balm to desecration. Punishing the perpetrators responsible for slaughtering hundreds of innocent pilgrims and burning of Sikh Reference Library beside political resolution to the Indo-Punjab conflict can heal the wounds and pacify the Sikhs.

In a bid to rehabilitate their party, Badal’s have all of a sudden founded lost love for martyrs including Sant Jarnail Singh. He said Badals saluting “defenders of the faith” should be seen in this context and nothing more, he cautioned the masses.

“The aspirations of the Diaspora for Khalistan are very strong,” said Akali Dal Amritsar leader Eman Singh Mann, whose party extended support to the march. He said the basic issue is fulfilment of the political objective for which the struggle was launched. SFS students led by Kanu Priya from Punjab University also participated in the March and expressed solidarity with the Sikhs.

Akal Federation head Narien Singh said the community avenged army attack in the true Sikh historical tradition..

United Akali Dal head Mohkam Singh and general secretary Gurdeep Singh Bhatinda said scars of the army attack were still fresh.
