Birmingham, England (March 28, 2012): As per inforamtion available with Sikh Siyasat about thousand people have protested in Birmingham against an execution scheduled to take place in India on Saturday.
Balwant Singh Rajoana is due to be hanged for his part in the 1995 murder of Punjab’s Chief Minister Beant Singh, who was considered to be responsible for mass level massacre of civilian Sikh population.
If carried out, the execution would be the first in the country since 2004.
The Birmingham protest, organised by the Sikhs, saw hundreds of people marching from Handsworth to the Indian Consulate in the Jewellery Quarter.
Yesterday, a court in Chandigarh set a date for Rajoana’s execution, prompting widespread protests across the Sikh world.
Bhai Rajoana, who was sentenced in 2007, unlike other conspirators, has not appealed against the original court decision and has questioned the judicial process in India for its balant and continous faliour to try culprits of mass human rights violations inluding Sikh genocide 1984, genocidal violance against Gujrati Muslims in 2002 and massacres of Chiristians in Orrisa in 2008.
