Three Sikhs convicted by London court over Kuldip Brar’s stabbing

London, United Kingdom (July 31, 2013): As per recent media reports three Sikhs, who were charged with assaulting and hurting Kuldip Singh Brar have been convicted. Trio have been reportedly convicted for causing grievous bodily harm to Kuldip Brar, former Indian Army officer who had led a deadly attach on Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984, India.

He was slashed in the neck as he was walking with his wife near London’s busy Oxford Street shopping area in September last year.

As per inforamtion Mandeep Singh Sandhu, Dilbag Singh and Harjit Kaur were convicted at Southwark Crown Court, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said. Another man, Barjinder Singh Sangha, had previously pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

According to a statement by Mari Reid of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Brar had been targeted in a highly planned and pre-meditated attack.

“The couple was set upon in what was a swift, effective and terrifying ambush; Sandhu and Singh held Lieutenant General Brardown as Sangha slashed at his neck with a knife,” Reid said.

“The group clearly targeted (him) in revenge for his actions during his military career…”, he added.

As per information the convicts will be sentenced in September at a date to be fixed.

It is notable that Lt. Gen. Kuldip Brar was one of the commanding officers who attacked Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar). Indian army used tanks and heavy machine guns as a result the building of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib was badly damaged. Thousands of Sikh devotees were killed by the Indian army in this attack. The army had also burnt the national Sikh library named “Sikh Reference Library”.
