Shri Amritsar Sahib: As per the media reports the Sikh Sangat here on Thursday observed the Martyrdom of Bhai Dilawar Singh, the one who executed former Chief Minister Beant Singh for the crimes committed by him against Sikh Panth during early 1990’s. The event was observed at Shri Akal Takhat Sahib.
It was on August 31, 1995, Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar, to execute Beant Singh sacrificed himself as a human bomb. Shri Akal Takht Sahib along with Sikh Sangat later bestowed the title of a “martyr” on him.
SGPC backed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and SGPC functionaries stayed away from the event, while Jagtar Singh Hawara, imprisoned jathedar of Akal Takht nominated by the Sikh gathering, sent his message, which was read out by Gurcharan Singh of Bahadurgarh in Patiala district, media reports said.
In his reported message, he stressed the need for Panthic unity to accomplish the mission for which “martyrs” like Dilawar Singh had sacrificed their lives.
Furthermore, Malkeet Singh, head priest of Akal Takht Sahib, presented a siropa to Dilawar’s family members. The bhog of akhand path was performed and a function was held on the first floor of the Akal Takht Sahib.
Pro-freedom group Dal Khalsa president Harpal Singh Cheema and Kanwar Pal Singh while paying homage to Dilawar Singh, took a dig at the SGPC for organising such functions halfheartedly, reports The Tribune (TT).
