New Zealand: The Christchurch massacre, which has left at least 49 people dead and 20 injured on Friday, March 15 in New Zealand’s city Christchurch in two targeted mass shootings at mosques. The terrorist left a 74-page manifesto explaining his reasoning for attacking these mosques. New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern described today’s attacks as, “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.” Being that the acts of terror took place during jummah, or Friday prayer, it was especially horrific for the Muslim community. Following attacks, police urged the community to avoid any mosque.
United Sikhs condemns the attack in New Zealand and all attacks of hate. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims as well as the nation of New Zealand, as it finds a way to overcome from such a disaster. Our thoughts are with the Muslims community, as we too, understand the pain of being a marginalized community.
