Mumbai, India (September 13, 2013): According to certain media reports the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has taken notice of naming of the upcoming bollywood movie as “Singh Sahib”, because as per Sikh tradition the term is used for Jathedars of the Sikh Takhts.
“The word Singh is a very religious and respectable word in the Sikh religion. Using it in the film is being disrespectful. The producer and the director of the film should take permission from the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC),” Akal Takht Jathedar (head) Giani Gurbachan Singh told Sikh Siyasat News over phone.
Guani Gurbachan Singh said that if the filmmakers did not remove the quotation ‘Singh Saab’ from the film, then they will be charged for hurting the sentiments of Sikhs.
“Singh Saab The Great” is directed by Anil Sharma and stars Sunny Deol and Amrita Rao in the lead roles. This is a commercial movie. Previously, Sunny Deol starrer “Jo Bole So Nihal” had also courted controversy as the religious slogan of Sikhs was made title of a commercial movie. The film Singh Sahib is scheduled for release in the cinema theaters on November 22, 2013.
