Amritsar, Punjab (October 29, 2013): Sikh nation will be observing the martyrdom day of Shaheed Beant Singh on October 31, 2013 at Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar. As an annual practise the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has began Akhand Paath of Guru Granth Sahib Ji near Akal Takht Sahib in the memory of Bhai Beant Singh, which will conclude on October 31.

Vancouver, Canada (October 29, 2013): Around 100 years after Ghadri Bhai Mewa Singh became the first Sikh from India/Punjab to be executed in Canada on charges of killing a senior British officer there, the Punjabis residing in the country are moving a petition against branding him as a criminal in the Canadian historical and legal records.

The shall be submitted to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay in Geneva by various Sikh and human rights organizations on November 1, 2013 which marks the 29th anniversary of the genocide of Sikhs in November 1984.
