Amritsar, Punjab (January 19, 2014): It is learnt that the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has called a meeting of the Five Jathedars on January 22, 2014 to discuss the standoff between Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh and the management committee.
New Delhi, India (January 19, 2014): It is learnt that members of certain Sikh bodies held a demonstration outside the British High Commission in New Delhi on January 17. The demonstration was held in wake of recent disclosure of British involvement in June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar).
Sacramento, USA (January 19, 2014): According to a detailed statement sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) by Organization for Minorities of India (OFMI): [while] opposing oppression of religious minorities in India, Christians are uniting with Sikhs this week, asking five congressional representatives from Northern California to support House Resolution 417, a statement by the United States Congress which calls for religious freedom and related human rights to be included in U.S.–India talks.
Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 19, 2014): As per certain media reports Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann said (on Jan. 18) the revelation that the British Government under then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had lent support in the June 1984 attack on variosu Sikh Gurdwaras including Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) has hurt the Sikhs.
