Fremont, CA: Two years ago, California Governor Jerry Brown signed AB1964, or the California Workplace Religious Freedom Act (WRFA), into law. AB1964 prohibits religion-based segregation in the workplace and strengthens the legal standard for religious accommodations in favor of employees and job applicants. AB1964, which went into effect in January 2013, provides workers in California the nation’s strongest protections against religious discrimination.
Chandigarh: A Ludhiana resident has moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions to interrogate former DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant in custody to obtain information about drug smugglers and drug-paddlers in Punjab.
Ludhiana, Punjab: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab (AAP Punjab) leader and senior supreme court lawyer HS Phoolka, in a statement issued on Thursday, stated that Punjab chief minister Punjab, who himself is power minister as well, should explain to the people about shortage of coal and power crisis in Punjab.
Sarbpreet Singh, a Sikh and a community activist in the ​Greater Boston area wrote a poem ​titled "Kultar's Mime" in 1990. Drawing on various sources and inspirations, ​such as the poem ‘In The City Of Slaughter’ by Jewish poet Hayim Nahman Bialik​ and verses from Bhai Gurdas, a 16th century Sikh poet, ​Singh wrote the poem to express his own reaction to the horrific violence of 1984. He named the poem "Kultar's Mime" after ​a character he read about in anthropologist Veena Das' book on the carnage survivors in Delhi.
New Delhi, India: In an interview with Hartosh Bal, political editor of Caravan Magazine, former Petroleum secretary Avtar Singh Gill has said that the November 1984 massacres of Sikhs were a well organized carnage.
Hyderabad, India: A 11-year-old boy was reportedly doused with kerosene and set ablaze inside the high security army area in Hyderabad's Mehdipatnam on Wednesday (Oct. 08).
New Delhi/ Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister Omar Abdullah has written a letter to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extending thanks to AAP MLA and MPs who have contributed MLAD and MPLAD funds for the rehabilitation of people affected by J&K floods.
Bathinda, Punjab: Security outside the Gurdwara Jandalisar Sahib near Kot Shamir village has been intensified following the grant of bail to Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal. Baba Daduwal was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday (Oct. 07). His release is expected today.
