Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh today approved Rs 2 lakh as compensation to each of over one thousand Sikh families, who migrated to Punjab from different parts of Indian subcontinent after the 1984 Sikh genocide.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi yesterday, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) chief Sukhbir Badal said that his party was all set to strengthen its reach and organisational structure in Uttar Pradesh (UP) by contesting the 2017 assembly elections in order to ensure due recognition for Sikhs and the Punjabi community in the State.
After announcement of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) to contest upcoming Vidhan Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, Aam Aadmi Party MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann mocked Badals and said that fearing defeat the Badal seems to have decided to flee to UP.
