10th December is a key date for human rights as on this day 70 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly, had meeting in Paris, and adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Court of an Additional Sessions Judge here today acquitted Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in a 24 years old case. The case F.I.R number 133 (dated: 6 December 1995) was registered at police station Kotwali (Ludhiana). Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was nominated in this case on 11 December 1995 and was arrested on 23 December 1995.

Sikh marchers of Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) were today barred from entering J & K. Acting upon the orders of the magistrate of Kathua, citing law and order problems, the Kathua police stopped activists of Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) at the Madhopur-Kathua interstate border, stopping them from going to Srinagar to observer International Human Rights Day there tomorrow. The magistrate Mr Kalil Kant issued written orders prohibiting the march to enter into the state.
