Canada’s diplomatic relations with India were severely strained after revelations of foreign interference and transnational repression by the Indian government in Canada during the final phase of the previous Justin Trudeau–led Liberal government.
With the formation of a new Liberal government in Canada, and following the U.S. administration’s decision to impose tariffs on Canadian goods, Ottawa’s approach toward India has shifted. The new government is now working to mend its ties with New Delhi.
