Bhai Gajinder Singh slams the brand of Hindutva nationalism being exhibited at Ramlila ground

Chandigarh (August 25, 2011): Dal Khalsa exiled leader Bhai Gajinder Singh today slammed the brand of Hindutva nationalism being exhibited at Ramlila ground.

Raising the pitch of fears in minorities and those on margins, he took exception over the slogan ‘Anna is India and India is Anna’. He said this slogan takes us back to the period of Indira Gandhi and that of Hitler. “It symbolizes personality worshipping and arrogance. Such people have invariably been consigned to the dustbin of history”.

Gajinder Singh who hijacked the Indian plane in Sep 1981 and was sentenced to life imprisonment in Pakistan has been living in exile since his release in Nov 1994.

There’s no denying fact that corruption is present in every institution in the country and in all the governments, at the national level and in the states, whether of the Congress or the BJP. Our organization is vehemently opposed to corruption and “we all wish to wipe out corruption from our society”, said the patron of the radical party.

Watching the anti-graft agitation by Anna Hazare closely while sitting hundreds of miles away, he said it was unfortunate that the battle against corruption had vociferously projected the symbols of ‘Hindutva Nationalism’.

“The slogans and the style of the crowd around Anna Hazare reflect the presence of the RSS at some level”, he pointed out. Donning Gandhian cap (topi) with the tricolour in hands, the cadre of the RSS was heavily present in the crowd to sustain the movement, he said in his written statement forwarded to media by party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh.

Quoting the statement by the official of US government advising the Indian government to deal with Anna’s movement cautiously, he said the Indian electronic media had elevated a less known Samaj Sewak into international figure. According to Gajinder Singh, there were many invisible forces behind the Anna movement including corporate sectors and media barons. It was evident from the large number of posters, banners, fluttering flags and caps that detailed plan had been chalked out much in advance and this anti-corruption stir was part of some sinister design involving big force.

He questioned Anna and his team members for remaining silent when Indian state heaped injustices and tyranny against religious minorities and so-called down trodden and lower caste.

Reacting on Jan Lokpal Bill, he said Anna’s fascist approach was visible when he insist, “My lokpal Bill should be passed in Parliament”.
