BJP set to form government in Delhi, Media reports

New Delhi, India (September 07, 2014): Recent reports suggest that the Bhartiya Janta Party is ready to form the government. Media reports, while quoting unnamed sources, say that BJP is just waiting for a formal invitation from Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to form the government in Delhi.

Delhi was put under President rule after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal resigned in February ahead of Lok Sabha elections in India.

A NDTV report quotes undisclosed sources saying: “the BJP’s parliamentary board will meet on Tuesday to formally decide about forming the government in Delhi. The board will also decide the name of the Chief Minister”.

In a note to the President, L-G Najeeb Jung has reportedly suggested that the BJP should be allowed to prove its majority on the floor of the assembly before a fresh election is considered.

A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders met Indian President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday.

The AAP urged the President of India against accepting the “unconstitutional advice” from the Lieutenant Governor, and sought “fresh elections” in Delhi.

AAP leader dubbed the suggestion of Najeeb Jung as a “murder of democracy”.

“On what basis will he justify what he is suggesting? Isn’t this an invitation to form a government through dishonest means?”, said Arvind Kejriwal.

It may be recalled that the BJP and its ally (SAD-Badal) have with 29 MLAs in 70 member string house. So BJP+ are five short of a majority.

The argument of Aam Aadmi Party is that BJP can not prove majority in Delhi assembly except by indulging into horse-trading.
