Chandigarh: The pro freedom group Dal Khalsa today demanded from Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to move beyond lip service and initiate probe into the killing of 21 ‘militants’ whose surrender he himself arranged and who were subsequently eliminated in ‘fake encounter’.

Notably while speaking at the launch of “The People’s Maharaja,” his authorised biography in Delhi, Amarinder Singh claimed that Chandra Shekhar betrayed him and that he was responsible for the death of 21 ‘Khalistani militants’.

Kanwarpal Singh Bittu.

Party leaders Kanwar Pal Singh, Satnam Singh and Ranbir Singh said Amarinder Singh has tactically admitted that 21 militants whose surrender he himself facilitated were subsequently eliminated in a stage managed encounter. ‘Amarinder Singh is known for bold admissions and going by his character he has endorsed how Indian forces and state police carried out illegal killings with impunity during the period of militancy.

Furthermore, they said Amarinder Singh’s mere regret on deaths mean little to the victims and justice-seekers. “Coincidentally, Amarinder Singh is on the saddle now-a-days. He is a witness and moreover in a position to entrust a probe into the unlawful killings. If he has any burden on his conscience, a fair justice to victims can relieve him. And to bring guilty cops to book an impartial and fair investigation is essential.”

Kanwar Pal Singh said he has read the book on Amarinder Singh. There are no detailed references of 21 militants except Anokh Singh Ubhoke, who approached him to surrender and as per the book, he was handed over to IB Director in the presence of former PM Chandra Shekhar in 1991. Ubhoke was shown killed in an encounter in Dec 1992.

Amarinder Singh felt betrayed by then PM Chandra Shekhar. Hence, he should not repeat the same with the deceased persons and their aggrieved families.

They said Amarinder’s defence of the army major who “used” Kashmiri as a human shield was in a bad taste.
