Kurukshetra, Haryana: It is learnt that Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa today jumped off the water tank. He was seeking release of Sikh political prisoners who have already completed the minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.
Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had started his protest earlier today seeking release of Sikh political prisoners. He was reportedly issuing warning to the administration that he would jump off the water tank if the government of India fails to release Sikh political prisoners.
After he jumped off the water tank he was rushed to a hospital in Kurukshetra where he was declared dead.
Earlier Two Agitations by Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa Seeking Release of Sikh Political Prisoners
Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had started hunger strike at Gurdwara Amb Sahib (Mohali) in November-December 2013 seeking release of Sikh political prisoners. He had ended hunger strike on December 27, 2013 after some political prisoners were granted parole.
Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had started his hunger strike for the second time on November 14, 2014. He had volunteered to undergo medical treatment on January 09 and formally ended his hunger strike on January 14.
Administration had not taken enough measures: Media Reports
TV News channel reports have suggested that the administration had not taken enough measures to prevent any untoward incident in wake of protest by Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa.
