Dera Pardon Row: Sikh bodies protest outside Giani Gurbachan Singh’s house

Amritsar: Members of a number of Sikh organizations of Moga district yesterday held a demonstration outside Akal Takhat Jatehdar Giani Gurbachan Singh’s house. Demonstrators demanded that Jathedars’ should withdraw their decision to grant so-called pardon to Dera Sauda Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. They said that the Jathedars’ decision was violative of Sikh traditions and it was announced under political influence.

Members of these Sikh bodies also held an Ardas at Akal Takhat Sahib and prayed for panthic unity.

As per information the protesters were initially denied permissions to meet Giani Gurbachan Singh. After the demonstrators raised their protest, they were allowed to meet Giani Gurbachan Singh in form of delegation of five persons.

During their meeting with Giani Gurbachan Singh, the protesters handed over a memorandum to Giani Gurbachan Singh.

The protest was reportedly led by Balwinder Singh (Federation Mehta), Avtar Singh Khosa, Baba Balwinder Singh, Resham Singh Khukhrana, Jagrup Singh Damdami Taksal and Giani Anokh Singh.
