“Six days ago, he was brought to Bathinda from the high-security Nabha Jail. Tara’s shifting from Bathinda has come as a relief for the local policemen, who were on their toes ever since he was brought on remand here”, notes The Tribune (TT).

Sources told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that the police and local administration had made tight security arrangements at Bathinda court complex. Eyewitnesses told SSN that supporters of Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara were also present outside the court complex. As soon as the police brought Jagtar Singh Tara to the court, his supporters raised “Khalistan” slogans.

The police reportedly failed to show any recovery from Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara and his counsels Advocate Harpal Singh Khara and Advocate Gurpreet Singh opposed extension of police remand. Agreeing to the pleas of defence counsels, the court sent Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara in judicial custody till February 26.

It is notable that Amarjeet Singh of Ropar, whose police remand was extended today, was arrested after Jagtar Singh Tara’s extradition from Thailand. The police claimed that Amarjeet had thrice deposited money in the bank account of Ramandeep Sunny of Bathinda, another man arrested in the case. Police alleges that Sunny had links with Jagtar Singh Tara.
