No screening of Nanak Shah Fakir movie in Canada

Ontario, Canada: Harinder Sikka, maker of the controversial movie Nanak Shah Fakir, ignored all appeals and warnings from the Sikh circles and released his ‘offensive’ film yesterday. His decision to release the film triggered strong resentment from the Sikh circles. Sikhs from Punjab, Pakistan, Chandigarh, Delhi, Slough (UK), Italy, Germany, Melbourne/ Australia and Canada have strongly opposed the screening of the movie.

As a result the movie was banned by Punjab government and Chandigarh administration. Sikh youth organisations of Delhi are pressing the Delhi government and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) to ensure ban on screening of this film in Delhi.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the film was not screened in Canada. Local sources told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that certain Sikh organisations convinced the local distributor to drop the screening of the movie in Canada.
“Distributor was appeased that the film is made in clear violation of Sikh tenets and it’s screening is bound to hurt sentiments of Sikhs… After that the distributor dropped the film and it was not screened in Canada” a Canadian Sikh Coalition (CSC) representative told Sikh Siyasat News.
