Amritsar, Punjab (July 21, 2013): As per certain media reports Paramjit Singh Sarna, former president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), could face religious action for creating hurdles in the construction of memorial to 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib complex in Delhi.
As per information Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, has summoned Paramjit Singh Sarna to appear before them at Akal Takht secretariat on July 26th to submit his clarification on the issue of creating obstacles by way of filing a writ petition in Delhi High Court seeking to stop the construction of the memorial on the plea that construction of a memorial inside the precincts of Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib.
According to a news reported by the Times of India (TOI), while talking to TOI, Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gubachan Singh said, “We have summoned Sarna to appear before us and submit his clarification.” Asked whether he could face excommunication or strict religious action, Jathedar said “The Sikh high priests have also convened a meeting on July 26th, if they were not satisfied with the clarification submitted by Sarna, then a due religious course would be adopted “.
On the other hand Paramjit Singh Sarna is reportedly confident that he had not violated any norm of religious conduct and he is all prepared to defend his actions.
