BC, Canada (August 22, 2013): As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) the Sikh Genocide and Sovereignty Conference held in Canada, by the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), resolved to support the filing of a criminal complaint before the United Nations regarding the massacre of Sikhs during Sikh Genocide of November 1984 against the Indian National Congress. The conference was held on August 17, 2013.
As per information the US based Human rights and advocacy group will register a criminal complaint with the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) against the Congress, alleging the party’s role in organizing attacks on Sikhs during November 1984, denial of justice to the victims and immunity to the perpetrators.
SFJ said that under the UN procedures, such complaints are referred to the sub-commission on the promotion and protection of human rights, which examines complaints regarding gross human rights violations and impunity, as in the case of November 1984 genocide of Sikhs.
Justifying UN intervention on the issue, SFJ legal advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun said India failed to investigate, prosecute and punish those who organized the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. “Rights group will present to the UN, evidence and documents regarding the use of local administration and government resources by the Congress leaders to organize genocidal attacks on Sikhs during November 1984,” he revealed.
“The complaint invokes UN ‘Convention against Genocide’, which declares any intentional and deliberate attack on any religious minority to be a ‘crime’ liable to be prosecuted and punished. Evidence of November 1984 killing of Sikhs clearly shows that they were deliberately attacked in a planned manner throughout India at the behest of the then ruling Congress party,” Panun added further.
The conference was organized by SFJ with the support of various human rights groups, Sikh organizations and gurdwara committees across Canada to spread awareness regarding massacre of Sikhs and denial of justice to the victims.
