Sikhs for Justice calls for Economic Boycott of India to save Professor DPS Bhulaar’s life

June 24, 2011 | By

New York (June 23, 2011): To secure the release of Professor Bhullar from the illegal detention of the Indian Government and to demand Bhullar’s return to Germany who has already agreed to take him back, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) launched “Economic Boycott” of India. As a part of “Economic Boycott”, SFJ urged Sikh NRI’s to stop remitting any money to India. The countries who do not believe in death sentence will be approached urging them to sever all economic and trade ties with India until Professor Bhullar is set free. American, Canadian and European public will be mobilized to stop buying the products manufactured in India.

SFJ’s call for “Economic Boycott” of India is part of “Civil Disobedience Movement” of AISSF urging the Indian public to clog and burden the Postal Service of India by sending “unstamped” letters addressed to President of India demanding release of Bhullar. The letter writing campaign will clog the Postal Service, burden the Government of India through “unstamped letters” and will put pressure on the President of India to order the release of Professor Bhullar. AISSF’s “Civil Disobedience Movement” is going to start on July 15 after rally at Jantar Mantar, Delhi.

According to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ, since India still believes in Capital Punishment and has refused to honor the UN Resolutions asking to put moratorium on execution of death penalty, Professor Bhullar’s execution is imminent. An irreparable loss will be caused if Professor Bhullar’s death sentence is executed by India and to save an innocent human being’s life, SFJ has launched “Economic Boycott” asking the world community to play its role in saving Professor Bhullar from gallows, added attorney Pannun who practices human rights law in the United States.

Since the Sikh exodus from India in late eighties, remittances of Sikh NRIs make a huge part of Indian Foreign Reserves helping Indian economy, any now stopping of remittance by Sikh NRIs will cause a visible blow to Indian economy. In democratic world, Economic Boycott is a very effective tool to isolate any country and India will be forced to respect UN resolution on putting moratorium on execution of death penalty and life of Professor Bhullar and many others will be saved, stated attorney Pannun.
