East Punjab has 3.67% of its' area under forest. Most of the forest is concentrated northern parts of the state which fall close Shavlik range of hills.
The forest cover in Punjab has decreased by 2 square kilometres in 2021 as compared to 2019. The forest cover has decreased to 1,847 square kilometres from close to 1,849 square kilometres in 2019, out of total 50,362 square kilometres geographical area in the state.
Baba Sewa Singh of Kaar Sewa Khadoor Sahib has been engaged in environment conservation for past about two decades now. Kaar Sewa Khadoor Sahib has planted hundreds of thousands trees in Punjab under its greenery drive. This Sikh body has set up rain water harvesting on various buildings under its direct or indirect management. Kaar Sewa Khadoor Sahib has planted more than one hundred small forests at different places in Punjab.

Speaking during this event Parmjeet Singh presented data related to Punjab's ground water crisis and said that the situation is so severe that if we do not change the pattern of ground water use, then Punjab would turn desert by 2040. He said Punjab is set to consume its ground water resources by 2040 at present rate of over-extraction of ground water.

Agriculture and Environment Center is calling for paddy reduction in Punjab in order save ground water. The Center is holding Water Awareness March and meeting environmentalists, agriculture experts and successful farmers practicing natural farming, or using farming techniques which save water.
Bhai Mandhir Singh, one of the directors of Agriculture and Environment Center, said that Jal Chetna Yatra will start on 7th of June from Darbar Sahib, Sri Amritsar. No end date is announced for conclusion of the Yatra. He said that if restrictions on gatherings etc. are lifted then a Jal Panchayat (Water Assembly) could be organized after the conclusion of this yatra.
