The World Sikh Organization of Canada has welcomed a joint intervention by five UN Special Rapporteurs urging Canada to strengthen protections for Sikh activist Moninder Singh Bual, accelerate investigations into credible threats against him, and address India's alleged campaign of transnational repression targeting Sikh activists.
UN experts' communication explicitly places threats to Sikh activists in Canada within a broader pattern of India’s transnational repression targeting Sikh dissidents across the diaspora and was shared with the Government of India as well.
The United Nations has raised concerns over alleged transnational repression targeting Sikh activists, highlighting threats against Sikh Federation (Canada) spokesperson Bhai Moninder Singh. In a communication to Canada, five UN experts urged authorities to ensure his protection, investigate the reported threats, and provide accountability regarding ongoing security concerns.
The Sikh Federation (Canada) is calling for an independent public inquiry and greater transparency following U.S. indictments against individuals linked to the Bishnoi network. The organization says the developments raise serious concerns about foreign interference, transnational repression, and the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.
Sikh Federation International recently concluded high-level engagements in Baku, Azerbaijan, focusing on Sikh history, human rights, and the right to self-determination. A formal agreement was also signed with the Baku Initiative Group to preserve Sikh heritage.
Organizers have announced a critical seminar titled "The Invisible War," scheduled for April 15, 2026, in Surrey, BC. The event aims to shed light on state policies, the proliferation of Deras, and historical attempts to dilute Sikh sovereignty following the pivotal 1978 Amritsar Shaheedi.
Prominent Sikh leaders Bhai Parmjit Singh Mand and Bhai Moninder Singh are set to address the local Sikh Sangat on Punjab's current climate, the role of the diaspora, and the ongoing Khalistan struggle in an upcoming Panthic Seminar.
