A special CBI court in Mohali on 4 August 2025 sentenced five retired Punjab Police officers to rigorous life imprisonment for the cold-blooded killing of seven individuals — including three special police officers (SPOs) — in two fake encounters staged in 1993.
Faridkot, Punjab (April 09, 2012): Another case of custodial death and torture is reported in Punjab. "The 35-year-old victim, Chamkaur Singh of Khosa Pando village, who had a 'kirana' shop in the village, was picked up by the police on the charges of drug trafficking on Friday (April 08, 2012) evening. He was allegedly tortured, which led to his death the next morning", reports The Tribune.

Ludhiana (March 21, 2011): World Kashmir Diaspora Alliance has condemned the killing of Sardar Sohanjit Singh while in custody of Punjab Police. He was arrested on the suspicion of being involved in the movement of freeing Khalistan from Indian occupation.

The circumstances indicate foul play, claimed the Canadian Sikh Coalition (CSC), which asserted that Singh was tortured in custody by police for a week before his death.

Amritsar (March 16, 2011): Expressing their grave concern over the custodial death of Sohan Singh in Amritsar interrogation centre, the leaders of the Khalsa Action Committee Mohkam Singh, Gurtej Singh, Kanwar Pal Singh, Harpal Singh Cheema said the police was still practicing the old brute methods of custodial torture and illegal arrests.
