Recently, the Sikh sangat protested against the Punjabi movie Akaal, starring Gippy Grewal and Nimrat Khaira. Similar protests have occurred in the past against several other films, including Nanak Shah Fakir, Dastan-e-Miri Piri, Dastan-e-Sirhind, and the animated film Motherhood (based on the life of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji), to name a few.
On April 10, 2025, a new Punjabi film titled Akaal, starring Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nimrat Khaira, Jarnail Singh, and other prominent faces of the Pollywood industry, was released. However, the film's screening sparked widespread protests by Sikh activists, who raised objections to the portrayal of Baana (traditional Khalsa attire) in the movie.
Sikh Youth Power of Punjab has announced its opposition to the upcoming Punjabi movie Akaal. Pardeep Singh Ayali, a prominent leader of the organization, has raised objections to the film's depiction of "Akaalis" (saint-soldiers in Akaali/Nihang baana).

Crisis in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is refusing to end as former Punjab unit in charge Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi has decided to quit the party. Gurpreet Ghuggi was removed as Punjab state in charge with Sangur MP Bhagwant Mann few days back.
