Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026

Sikh Jatha Malwa has demanded the repeal of both the 2008 and 2026 Satkar Acts, rejecting amendments and asserting that matters concerning the reverence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib should remain under the authority of the Guru Khalsa Panth through Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
A major political confrontation has emerged in Punjab over the newly enacted Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar (Amendment) Act, 2026. The growing deadlock between the AAP-led state government and supreme Sikh institutions, including the SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has revived a nineteen-year-old prophetic warning. A 2007 memorandum by the Sikh Students Federation cautioned that inviting a secular state to legislate on Sikh religious affairs would eventually undermine Panthic sovereignty—a foresight many observers argue has now materialized.
The Panch Pradhani Jatha opposes Punjab government interference in Khalsa Panth affairs, calling for the complete scrapping of the 2008 and 2026 Satkar Acts.
