The Central government's move to restructure the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University (PU) has created a big controversy. Student bodies are protesting, and the political leadership of Punjab is condemning the move. Many are seeing it as a move directed at ending the claim of Punjab over Chandigarh.

Despite the stoppages by the Delhi police, acting under orders of the government of India, hundreds of activists from Punjab and Tamil Nadu held a demonstration against 50-day Kashmir lockdown and took out a march from Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib towards Jantar Mantar.
