Will Arvind Kejriwal head with his last stand on Prof. Bhullar’s release?

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal has sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister. His Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had secured an landsliding victory in Delhi assembly elections. Aam Aadmi Party had bagged 67 seats in 70 members strong assembly earlier this week. Kejriwal took oath as Delhi CM on February 14, the day that coincides the day of his resignation as Delhi CM as he resigned from the post on February 14 in 2014.

Arvind Kejriwal, during his short term as chief minister of Delhi (Dec 2013 to Feb 2014), had shown sincerity over some issues concerning the Sikhs.

He had recommended SIT to re-investigate November 1984 Sikh pogrom related cases. Besides this Arvind Kejriwal had recommended commutation of death sentenced awarded by Indian courts to Sikh political prisoner Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.

Delhi government led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court of India on Feb. 14 in which AAP govt. had opposed death penalty of Professor Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.

The AAP leader and the then Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had also sent a recommendation to the government of India for release of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.

There are reports that the BJP government has already decided to form SIT to re-investigate November 1984 Sikh massacre related cases. The SIT, if formed will be 12th such panel to investigate cases related to anti-Sikh violence in Delhi. However the effectiveness of such SIT remains under questions as previous 11 panels and Indian judiciary has failed, during last thirty years, to deliver justice to the victims.

As the Indian Supreme Court has already reduced death sentenced of Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar it is for the government to take decision about his release.

It is to be seen if Arvind Kejriwal would continue with his stance regarding release of Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.
