Amritsar, Punjab: A meeting of the “Five Singhs Sahibaan” was held today at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib under the leadership of SGPC-appointed Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj. The meeting was attended by Giani Keval Singh, Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib; Giani Tek Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib; Juginder Singh, Head Granthi of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib; and Mangal Singh, Panj Pyara of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

During the gathering, several issues were reputedly discussed and Adesh (edict) were issued after personal appearances and apologies by the concerned individuals.

The first case involved Dr. Karamjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, who admitted to making remarks during a South India event that were deemed contrary to the distinct identity of Sikhs. Accepting his apology, the Five Singhs Sahibaan imposed religious punishment including two days of sewa at Sri Harmandir Sahib, recitation of Gurbani for five days, reading and distributing 500 copies of “Hum Hindu Nahin” by Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha, and offering Karah Prasad.

The second case pertained to Jaswant Singh, Director, Language Department, Punjab, who had organized a dance program during the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib at Tagore Hall, Srinagar. He was reprimanded for alleged lack of reverence in his writings and ordered to perform sewa at Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib, Patiala, recite Gurbani for four days, distribute 100 copies of “Iti Jin Kari”, and perform religious offerings at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

In the third case, Harinder Singh, a UK-based preacher of Nirvair Khalsa Jatha, sought forgiveness for past controversial statements against Sikh principles. His ban on preaching was lifted with strict instructions to preach only according to Panth-approved Sikh Rehat Maryada and avoid factional criticism. He was also assigned religious service and prayers.

The fourth case involved Virsa Singh Valtoha, who tendered an apology for making baseless allegations against Sikh clergy. The earlier ten-year political ban on him was lifted with a strict warning against making statements against religious personalities. He was assigned extensive sewa across major Sikh Takhts and eleven days of scriptural recitation.

Lastly, in the matter related to so-called pardon given to Dera Sauda Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in 2015, Gurbachan Singh, former SGPC appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, was granted forgiveness after public apology, along with assigned sewa and Gurbani recitation.
