EcoSikh President to visit Punjab

Ludhiana (June 11, 2011): Dr. Rajwant Singh, President of EcoSikh, from Washington will be visiting Punjab and other states in India from 16th June – 12th July, 2011. During these four weeks he plans to meet with prominent Sikh political and religious leaders and conducting several consultative sessions with various grass roots organizations to bring major changes in Punjab’s current environmental issues. EcoSikh was launched in 2009 to highlight Sikh environmental thought and activism based on Sikh teachings. It has popularized the Sikh Environment day on March 14th which was celebrated by 400 Sikh institutions worldwide. EcoSikh is working with UN and with other international bodies on issues related to climate change and nature preservation.

Dr. Singh is also the Chairman of the Washington based Sikh Council on Religion and Education, an organization working closely with the White House and members of U.S. Congress on Sikh issues. He has been invited by President Clinton, Bush and now by President Obama to the White House on many occasions. He has organized the first Gurpurab at the White House during Bush presidency and now during the current US President.

He has also helped launch Sikh Human Development Foundation which provides scholarships to needy students in Punjab for higher education. This organization has funded over 1800 scholarships to students in Northern India in the last decade.

He is also the past-president and the current board member of the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington. He is also the secretary of the Washington based Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, an active Sikh organization focused on religious matters and Sikh youth issues in America.
